History

San Val Bindery Services is a family-owned business that has been providing the highest-quality book rebinding services to schools and libraries for more than 45 years. This commitment continues today and is backed by a lifetime guarantee.

San Val was founded in 1962. In the 1960s, the company focused on converting paperback books into high-quality hardcover editions, ensuring that quality books stayed on the shelves longer and allowing schools and libraries to save both time and money.

The 1970s brought further opportunities for growth as San Val Bindery Services recognized the need to provide additional services to its existing customers as well as wholesalers.

San Val began to convert paperback books to hardcover for wholesalers to sell directly to schools and libraries. New services were added including textbook rebinding, allowing schools to reuse hardcover textbooks that otherwise would have been destroyed. San Val also upgraded its production facilities and moved its bindery to Steelville, Missouri.

The 1980s and ‘90s saw continued enhancement of products and services. San Val Bindery Services became a leader in offering short-run, on-demand binding services to its customers. With state-of-the-art binding and digital cover-printing equipment, San Val offers high-quality bound editions in quantities from 25 to 1,000 books. These options offer our customers advantages over placing large first-run hardcover orders which carry a higher cost and the need to stock large inventories.

Today, San Val continues its commitment to quality and excellence. In 2001, a second production facility opened in Farmington, Missouri. Throughout the 2000s, San Val has expanded its services to meet the needs of publishers by producing hardcover editions of their books on an as-needed, short-run basis. San Val is also pleased to partner with many of the nation’s finest printers to provide them with the opportunity to provide case-binding services. Most recently San Val has added on-demand printing to the services it offers, giving publishers the ability to both print and bind on demand.
